The mullet is a very common fish found in coastal and inland waters throughout the world. They are mostly limited to tropical climates and like most other brackish fish they can tolerate freshwater for prolong periods of time. Since they mostly feed on organic material such as algae and other planktonic organisms it is very hard to catch them on hook and line. As a result most fisherman that pursue them as either a food source or as bait for larger fishes such as tarpons and snook, depend heavily on cast nets to capture them. Mullet schools can be found cruising the beaches and mangroves as well as inland brackish canals which makes them easy to catch on a cast net. This past Friday we went to give cast netting for mullets a try and even though we only caught one the adventure was worthwhile. Check it out!!!!
Haha loving it!
